Hi Fiona,
Welcome to the EC. Your website idea sounds very interesting. Good
places to start would be visits to the Open Source Hardware Group, which
meets on the first and third Thursday in the month (next meeting this
Thursday evening), and the Amateur Radio group, who meet on Wednesday
evenings.
