I'm a young guy so lack any kind of personal (for want of a better word)
feelings towards the lead vs lead free debate.  I've always just used
what's easiest to get my hands on, which is lead free and it works for me.
 Obviously though, you know a lot more about the history and as you've
pointed out the hardships that came with the transition.

Would you say that if a modern lead based and lead free solder was used in
matching circuits by a competent solderer and qualitatively compared that
there would be much difference in the final outcome?  And would you say the
lead vs lead free debate is as relevant in solder paster for SMD components
or is it mainly a through hole debate?
