I cant be seen to support a rave as such and would reccommend something cleverer than a massively visible soundsystem. How about a silent/bluetooth headphones system? That surely couldnt upset anyone?

I dont know about Edinburgh's rules, but here in Glasgow you need to apply 28 days in advance for permission to march on the public road but a rally (i.e. in one location and not going anywhere) is ok and you can just turn up. The Meadows in Edinburgh for instance is public but not on the road as such so you could parade around if you wanted I would imagine.
How about an unauthorised geek rave in Kelvingrove park? It's all the rage these days.
