Hi,
Things are looking good for the Open Day tomorrow, we have a lot of
people contributing and some excellent homebaking on its way. I think it
should be a very enjoyable day for everyone.
There's been good news on the funding front, the CCA have agreed to
contribute a substantial amount towards the total broadband costs and
New Media Scotland have also offered to put in some cash. It looks,
therefore, like we are definitely in sight of covering the full
broadband costs and depending on how well the fund-raising goes
tomorrow, it may be that individual Electron Club members will not have
to dig too deep into their own pockets! If the fund-raising goes really
well, we may even exceed our target in which case money could go towards
other useful stuff as well. So it's looking good and I think we can be
confident that tomorrow will be well-worth the effort.
Below is a roll-call of what I am aware of in terms of who is doing
what. We could maybe still do with a few extra hands here and there, so
if anyone else is up for helping let us know. There will also be other
people popping for a short while to chat and meet with people, in
particular there will be 3 film people: Nonto from Digital Desperados,
Barbara Orton an independent film and TV producer, and Jen Davies from
Glasgow Film Theatre. Hope I've not missed anyone out!
We will start setting up from 11am onwards.
The main things that will need done first are moving around tables. We
are having all the hands-on making-and-doing in the Electron Club foyer
area and out on the landing overlooking the CCA cafe, so need to move
the comfy chairs out of the foyer space and put tables up there and on
the landing. The solder bay will be here as well.
The meeting room will have a media kiosk with video from Electron Club
projects and the 3D paper engineering and LED sculpture as it builds
will be in there.
In the main room will be food, tea and coffee and the discussions. In
between discussions will be short practical demos, such as the Tapehead
Inspector and (to be confirmed) something from the radio guys. The door
will be open during discussions so people can come and go and food will
be near the door. We should have some food out in the foyer area too.
All of this stuff will run from 2pm-5pm.
At 5pm people will gather for Lucie's soundwalk around Garnethill which
will start properly at 5.15pm
At 6pm we'll head to the cinema for the results of the raffle and for
the film from Document. The film is about an hour long so this will end
sometime around 7.30-7.45pm. After that we just need to tidy up and go
to the pub.
Saturday is also the first day of the degree shows at the art school so
there should be a fair number of people in the area. Dan is going to
leaflet the arts school in the morning.
I am heading over the Electron Club this afternoon to help with
preparations. A big thankyou to everyone who is helping out and look
forward to seeing everybody tomorrow.
best wishes
Si
