Hey all,

So this mail has gone out way later than expected.

As well as the usual smattering of complaints about the room being
left in a state (please clean up after use) we've had repeat reports
of the root password being changed on the computers in the room.

If you're doing this please stop, it just wastes a lot of volunteers
time as the wipe and rebuild the machine. If you want to install
software please just use the password provided (on the laminated
card). These computers are there for anyone to use, safely, so please
stop doing this. If you have some special requirement/circumstance
where you feel this course of action is appropriate please contact me
off list directly.  Please consider that members and their guests use
these machines for various purposes.

The Glasgow Open Source hardware group has wound down, their every
other Thursday night slot is available.

sound experiments and firmly DIY... I've had a little exposure
throughout the years, but I would like to focus more on developing

Hi, My name's Russ. I moved to Glasgow from Liverpool a couple years
ago for a job (I do genomics research for a leukaemia group at U.
Glasgow). I became aware of the electron club through the linux user's
group (although i've only been to that once) and thought it was a
pretty cool setup. I'm quite keen to get an R user's group off the
ground in Glasgow and was wondering whether it might be something that
the electron club would be willing to house once a month - I'm not
sure how much demand there would be overall, but I have a couple of
people interested who are working outside the unis and that (so they
don't really have any support for training). My main interest is in
data visualisation. and surf guitar. and home brewing. But some of
those might be a bit irrelevant to the electron club's members. All

I am a volunteer with a number of environmental and human rights
charities and campaign groups and am very interested in being involved
in not-for-profit community and discussion groups.

Matthew Rice

Hi Everyone, I'm Matthew Rice, Scotland Director for Open Rights Group
the digital rights grassroots campaigning organisation. I'm interested
in making these important debates about freedoms online more
accessible to the public. Whether it is the risks of government
undermining encryption, expression online, data collection by big
corporates, getting these messages out to more members of the public
is part of ORG's theory of change. If more people care about these
issues, and understand why it matters to them in their lives, then we
stand a better chance of preserving these freedoms. I'm interested in
learning about new technology and privacy enhancing software, and
would like to getting involved in other grassroots campaigns
organisations are running in Glasgow and across Scotland.

Tracy Norman

Hi, I'm Tracy, entering 2nd year of Computing with the OU. I help run
glaWebDev, a coding group (originally web dev but we're rebranding to
encompass all coding) and I'd like to have a more permanent home for
it at the Electron Club

Csaba Nagy

Hi, I'm a software developer and a long time synth enthusiast who
recently discovered synth DIY. I have a small collection of
professional instruments as well as some self built synths, including
a Jasper (WASP clone) and a WP-20 (Ray Wilson, Music From Outer
Space). I'd like to learn all there is to design and build my own
synth and hope to meet like-minded people. Thank you and have a nice
