Hi all,

I'd like to thank all those who came along on Saturday to make the
10th anniversary so much fun.

Thanks to everyone taking part, we heard from a few people
representing groups who use the space, and identified some gaps in
knowledge which were quickly filled. For me this is part of the magic
that happens when people from different backgrounds, experiences and
interests get together in meatspace and talk to one another.

Yuvi Panda from Wikimedia did a talk on matrix
(http://www.matrix.org), a rust implementation is the top post on
hacker news at time of writing
(https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12028475)

Rob from Glasgow Make Some Noise (http://www.gmsn.co.uk) gave a great
talk about his Pure Modular (http://gmsn.co.uk/puremodular/), from
development to the intentions of getting schools to build and use them
as part of their curriculum. Afterwards everyone was invited to play
with the modular.

Several people tried soldering for the first time, some really
impressive first attempts. I don't think anyone went away without a
successful build of the telegraph kit.

Groups/events

For the newcomers check out the existing groups
(http://electronclub.org/doku.php?id=groups) and events
(http://www.electronclub.org/calendar/).

As discussed, anyone can start their own group and book the room.
Instructions on the website
(http://electronclub.org/doku.php?id=howto:calendar).

Since people look at the calendar to find out what is going on, this
is another opportunity for me to mention the quality of text provided
when creating an entry. For a lot of events the entry makes little or
no sense to anyone who is not already attending.

The website is a wiki, feel free to register an account and add to it
or edit existing entries. Especially if you start a group or event,
it's a major factor in getting people along to an event. If have an
existing group, please take a few moments to review the content and
ensure it's accurate.

On a related subject, please review your existing bookings. If you
aren't going to use the room please delete your booking. This is
becoming more of an issue.

I noticed that some of the newcomers were checking out the piles of
equipment and PCBs under the desks. Kenny, correct me if I'm wrong but
this is stuff from our never ending clear out, which is all up for
grabs.

Please let me know if you questions about any of this.

Martin
