Good afternoon all,

As you may have noticed, we had some server problems recently, which
impacted the website and mailing list availability. Normal service has been
resumed, a thank you goes to Ben for getting Rackspace on the case.

There are a few more in depth issues which are being looked at behind the
scenes, a big thank you to Kenny for his time also, but you should notice
that the wiki has had a complete upgrade/overhaul. I've yet to finish some
tweaks but it';s functionaly. The previous site had been some underlying
issues which have since been addressed.

As this is a new install, you'll need to register a new account. The
existing user base had become so polluted it wasn't worth trying to create
a usable table from data.

The new look wiki is still very much under development, I plan on adding
some new features over the coming weeks.

I mentioned this (relatively) recently but it's worth pointing out that the
site is something other members should feel free to update. I plan on
removing old outdated and dead content. If you know of anything you have
put on the site which is no longer valid please register and remove it.

Please welcome the new members, excuse the delay in adding you all to the
list:

Gino Ahmad:

"I'm interested in linux, software & hardware"

Kenny Andrew:

"Hi I am interested in electronics, particularly the kind that makes a
noise or can be somehow construed to contributing to musical composition of
a sort. My immediate project is the assembly of a small synthesiser from
component kit form, it requires soldering, I have never soldered, I would
like to contact someone with soldering skills to get me started."

Gareth Sanders:

"I am a 28 year old technology and software enthusiast. I work for the
Royal Navy as a Weapons Engineer but I enjoy tinkering around with old
hardware, giving it a new use. An avid Linux user both for home use and
hobby server side developments. Im looking forward to joining a group of
like minded people and learning some new things. I am currently trying to
teach my self Python as a language and would love to hear some tips and
tricks from some more founded programmers. I look forward to hearing back
and hope I can get involved with this."

Aran Eales:

"Being new to the city its mainly people I'm interested in - conversations
about open source hardware with a specific emphasis on renewable or green
technologies.
I'd ideally like to find a workshop to work with wood and metal, maybe
helping with the fablab concept mentioned on your website. However I am
also interested in less messy activities involving electronics and making
ubuntu machines do what I want them to do. I have an old desktop computer
that needs a home - would this be welcome as an offering?
Hope that serves as an adequate introduction, looking forward to meeting
some some like-minded people..."

Aran, the fablab content mention on the website is out of date, I'm fairly
sure this joined forces with http://maklab.co.uk/

Maja Shand:

"Hi, I'm Maja and I co-ordinate RailsGirls Glasgow, which is part of a
world-wide volunteer-run initiative to encourage women to code. I hope to
set up a regular RailsGirls group at the Electron Club so women from the
workshop (and anyone else who is interested) can continue to develop skills
they learned at the workshop."

Sounds good, though personally I think it'd be nice if this was also open
to men.

Remember instructions for booking the room are on the website, please
follow all of the steps, not that there are many. If you are booking the
room for an event which isn't mentioned on the website please sign up and
add some content. Should you need a hand with this please contact me off
list.

Have a great weekend

Martin
