I take it you guys have seen the newer 3D printers that use light
sensitive resin and a standard DLP projector?  They are fast, high
resolution and very simple, with as little as one stepper motor to
move the build platform in the resin as each layer is optically cured.

This version raises the object out of a shallow tray of resin being
exposed underneath.

Up to now the resins were quite expensive, but there is a lot of
experimentation going on to make standard cheap resins into blue light
curable versions by adding optical activator chemicals.  I think the
resin machines are going to displace the plastic filament machines
quite quickly.
