Actually, 
and more depressingly, it's probably the world's *second* biggest garbage dump. The world's biggest is reckoned to be the Great Pacific Garbage Patch or Gyre - a gyre of marine litter in the Pacific ocean. Combine the various garbage gyres in the sea and you dwarf anything on land.
