Welcome new member Mark Craig, who writes:

Hi, I'm a Mechanical Engineer who likes to tinker with electronics. I
hadn't picked up a soldering iron in anger for some time but recently
bought myself an Arduino and dusted off some old components and a project I
had shelved a year ago. The project is a simple animatronic hand and I'm
looking to control the servos that will animate it with the Arduino,
perhaps interfacing with an Android phone to control it.

Past experience playing with PICmicro's and programming them in MPASM
(assembly) and some higher level languages (JAL, Basic) to make/hack
robots/robotic toys. Also spent some time tinkering with PHP and MySQL,
JavaScript and the like. Keen to see what others are making and lend a hand
where possible. I work in downstream oil & gas and heavily involved in
pumping and hydraulic analysis so I could lend a hand with someone looking
to move liquids about or design simple hydraulic or pnuematic systems.

I follow Make Magazine Blog and HackADay (even had a project featured on
HackADay) and all the talk of hackerspaces got me curious which has brought
me to the Electron Club's website. I'm living in Renfrew so the commute to
the CCA might be a bit of a pain but will be worthwhile if I can meet with
likeminded individuals or groups and help out.

Thanks for reading this far, I look forward to popping in and meeting you
all.

Mark, excuse the delay in sign up/sending this email.

Thanks

Martin
