LEGUP community garden project, in Elder Park Govan has been transformed
over the last 2 years from a derelict site to a thriving community
resource. Many local folk have joined up in this sort time, and the
garden is blossoming.

The Fairfield farm building which sits in the grounds of the garden has
lain derelict and abandoned for 20 years. There were plans to spend a
few millions or such a ridiculous sum in transforming the building and
grounds into a community project, which didn't meet with community
approval. After much to-ing and fro-ing a community trust was set up to
administer the renovation of the farmhouse building.

The uniqueness of both these projects is that they function as DIY
The group looks at different ways of tackling the work within the
community infrastructure rather than the first usual option, tied
funding. The project through he efforts of its core group and its
relation to the city's common good is well rooted in the community and
has many options for for individual and group involvement.

The garden also functions as an out-door community centre, meeting
place, events space, outreach and the group at present are setting up a
series of planning workshops and also garden, farmhouse, related events
for over the winter period.
