I think there is a fine line here.  One the one hand, I don't think anyone would suggest that blantanly discriminatory or hateful activities should be tolerated. On the other hand, I'd suggest that a little offence and discomfort is a healthy thing from time to time.  It's just part of having an environment that fosters debate and discussion.

The EC being as open as it is means there will always be differring opinions and attitudes about almost everything.  If anyone wants to hang out in place where everyone thinks the same way and your statements will go unchallanged, the EC probably isn't it.  On the other hand, if you want to be part of a community where you can enter into a wider discourse on technology and how it's used, you certainly are in the right place.
