Hi Jo
Yeah the whole mapping thing is getting exciting. I use Google because I
don't have the time to spend working on open source code and stuff, I would
like to very much, but I'm not wired up as it were and would need some
intensive training to get me going:)

I have been to a few of the meet ups Tom has organised and listening to
Open Street Mappers the potential is vast. Andy Whightman (Who owns
Scotland) complains about access to "public funded research data" costing a
fortune, and his latest book could have contained much more information had
the data funded by the citizens been made available to them - Also dealing
with land reform, maps come into it a lot and the use of OS maps become
prohibitive to. Sorry I you know all this, I am just kind of outlining ways
I could spend more time on mapping and learning my way around it.

I work a lot on common good issues, and in the process of identifying and
restoring Scotland's common good (and the worlds) it makes perfect sense
that the map that delineates where it can be found is built on by and for
the common good.

I think a lot of "Open Source" could be open to more new people if it were
connected to ideas that were relevant to people. The interesting thing
about mapping is you have to get out and about which is a big plus so
anything that encourages folk to do this interests me. I look forward to
your visit. Ch Bob

Welcome to Glasgow (Awaiting transfer:)
