THIS IS YOUR ONE AND ONLY CHANCE TO VOTE FOR IT AND MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

*Voyage of Dreams* involves a group of young people from differently
disadvantaged backgrounds and places across Scotland coming together, to
learn how to work, live and develop their skills – both practical and
personal. It is about sailing, the sea, stories, journeys, histories and the
future.

Sailing around Scotland from the West Coast to the East Coast in the East
End Endeavour, they will connect people and places; rural settlements and
urban communities. Their journey will involve facing trying situations and
being tested. How will *YOU* rise to the challenge of being responsible for
yourself and others? Would *YOU* know the importance of personal safety and
looking after the safety of others?

These young people (and they could be *YOUR* young people) will record their
experiences, the challenges they face, the people and stories they engage
with.

*Voyage of Dreams* is about young people developing confidence, skills, and
ways of communicating with other people. It is about achievement, learning
how to work in adversity - both on your own and as part of a team.

The stories gathered from *Voyage of Dreams* will speak to Scotland in these
turbulent and stormy times via video diaries, music, poetry and films. They
will be stories of optimism, opportunity and making a real contribution
through the connections they make sailing round Scotland, the ports and
places they call into, and the stories they learn, tell and collect. These
will be tales of new ways of doing things - hope and change. Some of the
young people who have taken part in our three test sailings have already
attested to this with comments like:

‘Everyone is equal and you learn more by listening to others.’

and ‘It is great because you are made to notice things that are always
happening’

Others talked of the importance of ‘self-development’, ‘of learning to
become more confident’ and finding out how to act in demanding circumstances
and not ‘lose the plot’.

Notes to the editor

The project – A Voyage of Dreams is undertaken by Fablevision and A Scottish
Wave of Change. Fablevision is a Govan based arts charity with an unparalled
record of achievement at a local, national and international level of
delivering projects and work of lasting change. A Scottish Wave of Change is
a project using stories to explore the future of a Scotland people wish to
see – testing models of how they would like to bring it about. In
association with Fablevision, A Scottish Wave of Change will produce a
number of resources including the stories gathered during Voyage of Dreams.

East End Endeavour is a sail-training vessel, which, in a previous existence
was used for Glasgow City Council’s Youth Opportunities Programme in the
1980s, when current skipper Sam Paterson first sailed on her as a youth
trainee. She has a long history transforming the lives of young people from
a wide range of backgrounds and Sam, inspired by his own experience, is
determined to ensure she continues to do that important job.
