The little projectors have been around for a while.  Originally they had
quite low resolution, but that has increased over time.  All of the really
small units use an LED light source with two common types.  The white LED
and LCD panel type, and the RGB source and DLP module.  The DLP module
(Digital Light Processor) is an array of tiny etched mirrors on a chip that
can be deflected by a charge underneath so that they either reflect light
through or away from the output lens.  They create the RGB image by
alternately illuminating a red, green and blue LED while displaying the
appropriate image.

Intensity is still an issue with the smaller projectors, but is improving
over time.

Maplin seem to stock quite a few of the Aiptek models.
