Hi Everyone cinema minded and beyond,

I am helping co-ordinate a weekend of creative events in Govanhill called Streetland, over the first weekend in May 2010.
The programme will explore the street as conduit, meeting place, home and garden.

I know Simon very kindly mailed out the call for proposals the other week.
However I thought it best to join in this discussion and invite anyone interested in finding out more to come along this Saturday 20 February, between 11am-1pm to the Govanhill Baths Community Trust's Centre for Community Practice, 126 Calder St, where myself and members of the steering group from Southside Studios, Govanhill Baths Art and Regeneration Team and govanhill residents will be available to talk through ideas for taking part.

The idea of a mobile and self powered outdoor cinema is great and I'd like to find out more about the allotment screening idea too! - as well as invite all interested folks to get in touch/come along.

You can see guidelines for proposals at
http://www.thisiscentralstation.com/projects/call-for-proposals-streetland.aspx

Best wishes

Lucie

Cheers Ben,

I have got in contact with her and we are supposed to have a meeting soon. I will chase this up. Anyway for all those interested, the film night I run is just being opened up to the public. We are very excited about it and are currently reworking and re-launching it. We have had the Magic Lantern come recently and have been pulling in a great audience.

It is called BIG SCREEN and we currently have a facebook (just search big screen) you can add yourself to the group for updates and film schedules. We have a blog which shows trailers and has information about the films. The basic format is we show film shorts made by people around the art school prior to a feature film. Their is no selection policy and it is left to the students discretion. It is free to all GSA students and £1 to all members of the public with it ll going straight back into BIG SCREEN. It takes place in the Vic assembly hall on the first floor. It is a fantastic space with great acoustics and big comfy sofas. their is also a bar serving cheap booze and we aim to try and negotiate them supplying popcorn and other food too.

Catherine and Joanne it would be great if you could come in to do a night. We could do all the publicity and I am sure people at the art school would be fascinated. If its possible to arrange a meeting that would be great.

Regards,

Alex

Alex, and anyone else who is doing events which involve the Art School.
Drop Tara Beall a line at t.beall{at} gsa.ac.uk. She manages a huge mailing list, as well as the www.gsaevents.com website. Its one of her focuses to get the word out about things the school is involved with which the public can join participate in.

hi,

sorry for the delayed response. This sounds increadible. I currently run a flim night at the Art School which is going to be made open to the public too. I have also been talking about the idea of setting up open air/ mobile cinemas out of vans etc. I think the bike powered idea for it is even better. I really want to find out more. I really want to try and develop something. email me back or call 07804606954.

all the best

hi there, we have built a two bike pedal powered cinema, this generates enough electricity to power a super 8 projector. we have contacts in the magnificent revolution, a larger pedal powered cinema which powers a data projector. I think there are a few problems inherent in running a data projector and i would suggest getting in touch with those guys. they are based in london and are really friendly. if you want to know how we set up our cinema then get in touch, or if you want to borrow any stuff we have i am sure that could be arranged. we also have a caravan cinema, we were thinking of ways of powering this in a green way, perhaps on a biofuel generator or solar powered thing.

thanks
jo
