The history of 'Open Source" is one of community organisation. Working
together in collaboration and in the interest of freedom. The next phase in
open source should be to free it from academic institutions the uni, the
art school and the "activist" into the real community - to be used by all?
Workshop? Between 21 -25 Oct. anyone?

How we organise
A lot of our workshops, conferences, discussions don't really allow much
time, if any, to deal with organisation. Hopefully this event will reverse
where the issues will be used as vehicles to discuss organising. (The
following is a rough sketch - Sat Sunday is to script the rest will be
determined from feedback)

State of the arts (community activism) Day (weekdays evenings)
Meeting up looking at the present situation the good the bad and the ugly.
If we are all working under the banner for social change we need to look at
what we are doing "collectively" sometimes. What works, what is your
experience, using each others ideas, sharing the workload, forming
associations. How do we organise?

Young people Day (Saturday there are films concerning young people and
after they can have their say at the Electron and around 2:30)
How do we engage more young people in political ideas - Politics meaning -
How groups of people organise and make decisions democratically. Not just
students, but the mass of disengaged young folk cut off from the political
arena.

Communications Day (Weekdays and evenings)
Using the media, Open Source, networking, blogs, newsletters photography,
video, audio.
There will be an opportunity to make wee programs and jingles for radio and
learn how to do interviews and get your case across. Putting a community
newsletter together. A series of city strolls will be organised over the
event, incorporating history, photography and sound recording. If you want
to be part of the media team recording and filming interviewing, let me know

Common Good Day (Sunday)
Organising around a common good. Our common good is constantly under attack
and is something that can be connected to most of the on going issues in
our communities. Awareness of the common good and its history is an
excellent stimulant to planning and organising for all kinds of people.

This organising event itself will hopefully be about organising. It will be
about using your initiative and getting on with things. If you want to do
anything - make suggestions, have any ideas or do a workshop do a talk.
Join the Bridge/ How We Organise Group and discuss, post and advertise your
idea. Or send me an email. Post suggestions on Bridge group

So there is plenty of scope - plenty of time (5 days) - to make mistakes -
rearrange ideas - and come up with new ones. Only way to learn really.
