[ELECTRON] Is the Electron Club Becoming Too Political?

Well done James for standing out and voicing this opinion.

I've been feeling the same thing about the Electron Club and have noticed a
change in a political direction since I joined (which was only about six
months ago). I hadn't noticed the Digital Desperadoes messages before but in
my opinion if this is their stated policy they should be asked to change it
or find other facilities. Having a group around with less than open
membership policy could jeopardise the entire basis on which we're allowed
to be at the CCA.

Obviously in a room such as the EC there will be a variety of activities
taking place but surely those in charge should be ensuring the use of the
facilities is allocated to those who fit the aims for which the Electron
Club is provided to serve.

I've also been concerned that since the website has been down the calendar
has lost its prominence by being unlinked from the front page, and though
it's still there (www.electronclub.org/webcalendar) I don't think everyone
is respecting the bookings made through it.

For the last three weeks, although I've made sure SOLDER is booked into the
calendar to use the room Tuesday evenings, other strangers have been
floating in and out the room using the computers while we've been trying to
cover our course material. As they're not part of SOLDER I can't vouch for
who they are or whether they should be in the room at all. Not wishing to be
rude about it, but could that be asked to stop?

I don't want this to be a negative email. I think the Electron Club is a
brilliant resource and many work hard behind the scenes to enable some very
interesting and useful projects. But perhaps we should remind ourselves of
the objectives of the EC and try to work within the spirit of them.

[And though I know it's temporary, the lack of EC information on the web
page makes it hard for more recently established groups to see if they are
fitting in with the Electron Club's principles - can the old info be posted
back in the meantime?]
