Some hardware developers may be interested in this company which are offering a service for providing bespoke hardware based on open standards:

You may have bits and pieces of hardware / native development knowledge but might wish to develop a very specific piece of kit. A service which allows you to play with a very specific kit without having to have knowledge in all areas to build it form the ground up is great! I'd be interested to hear of any other services people had heard of which do the same thing.
